Hotels are the places you unwind and relax after a busy day of sightseeing and quenching your wanderlust. At their most basic level they provide you with somewhere to sleep and shower, however, some hotels take their experience and service levels to unbelievable heights!
1. Burj Al Arab, Dubai
This self-proclaimed 7-star hotel is considered one of the best if not THE best in the world. Standing at an astounding 1053 feet, the Burj Al Arab was one of the most ambitious construction projects every undergone - it stands on an artificial island 920 feet from the mainland! To arrive at the hotel they give you the option of Rolls Royce taxi or helicopter, and once arriving you have the option of choosing your pillow of preference from a menu. Activities include taking a mini-submarine to the hotel’s underwater restaurant, or playing tennis on the world’s highest court which is 900 feet above the ocean.
2. Ice Hotel, Sweden
Sweden’s Ice Hotel is the only hotel in the world which disappears and is then rebuilt every single year using approximately 130,000 tonnes of ice and snow from the nearby Torne River. The hotel was initially used to display art and screen movies, but has since been used as a hotel to house artists and ambitious travellers alike who’re looking for a one-of-a-kind hotel experience. Artists are invited to take part in the building of the hotel and are selected after pitching their own original ideas. The eventual construction and use of the hotel is often bittersweet for its builders, as a lot of hard work, planning, and preparation culminates in a hotel and creative space which only exists for a few months and is then gone again.
3. Giraffe Manor, Kenya
Giraffe Manor is one of the most unique hotel experiences in the world. The manor itself consists of a colonial mansion which was built in 1932, and provides stunning views of the Ngong Hills. However, its most incredible feature is that it’s home to a herd of giraffes! Every day for breakfast and dinner, the manor’s windows are opened and the majestic giraffes become your meal guests. There’s no experience quite like it!
4. Conrad Hilton, Maldives
If you’re looking for a holiday or vacation experience that both dazzles and relaxes you, then look no further than the Maldives’ Conrad Hilton. Located in a serene and private tropical paradise you’ll be staying in your own villa which is decked out with its own see-through glass floor, freshwater pool, and bed which rotates in line with the sunset. The facilities include a 20,000 bottle underwater wine cellar, need we say anymore? Activities include diving with manata rays, snorkeling with whale sharks, and walking the white sandy beaches. You can also take their Nemo submarine which is capable of taking you 100 feet below the ocean’s surface, allowing you intimate views of the pristine coral reef.
5. Anantara Golden Triangle, Thailand
This is without a doubt the most romantic hotel on our list, so it’s perfect for couples looking to stoke their inner flame. Located at the heart of the Golden Triangle where the countries of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos each intersect, this private paradise provides a fantasy experience. Firstly it’s a region steeped in history and lore from the days of the opium trade. Secondly, there’s elephants! You’re able to feed and go on guided treks with fully grown elephants, and there are also baby elephants which usually greet you at breakfast!
